Study on digital health in the EU

Publication of the study on digital health in the EU carried out by the French Ministry of Health and Prevention, as an initiative of the PFUE (French Presidency of the EU Council)

Study on Digital health

The acceleration of national health digital roadmaps is seen across Europe, and even more as a result of the pandemic crisis. It made it necessary to carry out a European study to give the state of play, including considerations of ethics.

The Digital Health Delegation from the French Ministry of Health, in partnership with EY and its European network, and thanks to the participation of the European Commission and the representatives of the Member States in the eHealth Network (the 27 Member States of the European Union, Iceland and Norway) conducted this study. It gives the profile of each of the countries studied and made it possible to produce the state of play of Digital Health in the EU.

Regarding ethics for digital health, the study provided the basis to work on a proposal for European ethical principles for digital health as well as for the on-going work on their implementation within the eHealth Network.

The initial findings of this study have already been highlighted during the ministerial conference “Citizenship, ethics and health data” held on February 2, 2022. A restitution webinar was organised by the French Digital Health Agency (ANS) on 19 April 2022.
